Post-Graduate Courses
Dear ASCE Members,

As the newest faculty member in the Department of Civil Engienering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I have quickly become aware of the high level of interest in the Structural Engineering Graduate Program. I have met with Dr. Russell Hibbeler and discussed the potential offerings of graduate courses. Listed below are the tentative offerings for the next four semesters.

SPRING 2010:
CIVE 430(G) - Structural Mechanics II (Hibbeler) MW 1:00-2:15
CIVE 524 - Prestressed Concrete (Carroll) MW 5:00-6:15

FALL 2010:
ENGR 520 - Advanced Mechanics of Materials (Hibbeler)
CIVE 508 - Matrix Analysis of Structures (Carroll) MW 5:00-6:15

SPRING 2011:
CIVE 430(G) - Structural Mechanics II (Hibbeler)
CIVE 470(G) - Advanced Reinforced Concrete Design (Carroll)

FALL 2011:
ENGR 520 - Advanced Mechanics of Materials (Hibbeler)
CIVE 521* - Structural Systems Design (Carroll)
*This class will focus on the use of ASCE 7

There also exist the possibilities for offering Structural Dynamics, Plates and Shells, and Bridge Design. These potential offerings are not currently scheduled but will be considered with a high level of interest of the students. For the upcoming Spring Semester, I will be teaching CIVE 524 – Prestressed Concrete. Attached you will find a rough draft of the course syllabus and additional information regarding the class design project, The PCI Big Beam Contest. If you are interested in taking this and/or other courses and would like more information, feel free to contact me by phone or email.

Sincerely,

Chris Carroll, Ph.D. <><
